PAS Institute of Dendrology in Kórnik Jacek Oleksyn graduated from the Faculty of Forestry in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1976, obtained his doctorate in Natural Sciences from the University of Silesia in Katowice in 1982, his DSc (habilitation) in Forestry Sciences from the University of Life Sciences in Poznań in 1994, and earned a professorship in Biological Sciences from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań in 2002. His main areas of interest are functional ecology, ecophysiology, and plant biology. Between 1988 and 2010, he worked at the University of Arizona (Tucson), University of Wisconsin-Madison, and University of Minnesota (St. Paul). He received the Foundation for Polish Science Award for natural and medical sciences (2008). He has published over 100 research papers indexed by Thomson Reuters, receiving approx. 6000 citations. Since 1976, he has been working at the PAS Institute of Dendrology in Kórnik.
