Asst. Prof. Lech Nijakowski works at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Warsaw. His research focuses on theories of aggression, violence and war as an interdisciplinary subject, as well as ethnic cleansing, genocide and massacres. His book Rozkosz zemsty – Socjologia historyczna mobilizacji ludobójczej [The Delight of Revenge – A Historical Sociology of Mobilization for Genocide], on which this article is based, was awarded the Ludwik Krzywicki Prize by PAS Division I by PAS Division I in 2013.

The discipline of genocide studies is highly complex, touching on almost all aspects of social life. As such, it faces numerous barriers and demands an interdisciplinary approach
