Metamorphic processes – one of the key geological parameters responsible for shaping our planet – can be classified into varying types, each of them delimited by its own set of boundary conditions

On the one hand, shale gas extraction has been portrayed as the future of Poland’s energy sector, and on the other, as an undertaking potentially harmful to the natural environment that might spark public protests. Why are opinions on this issue so widely disparate?

Hot dry rocks have been used in experimental and non-commercial installations for decades. These resources, locked deep within Earth’s crust, have a greater potential than the currently popular hydrogeothermal systems. Preliminary results of studies into hot rocks in Poland are promising: generating thermal and electrical energy at relatively low costs should become a reality in the coming years
